The Kingdom’s mobile, internet and other telecommunications operators expressed their commitment to joining the fight against online scams during a meeting with the Minister of Post and Telecommunications.
Telecommunications minister Chea Vandeth chaired a March 19 working discussion with around 90 representatives of the Kingdom’s information technology and communications sectors.
He highlighted the Royal Government’s goal of eradicating online scams and requested that all operators cooperate with the government and the ministry to eliminate these illegal activities from Cambodia, according to a ministry statement.
He requested that internet service providers monitor locations with unusually high internet usage and be prepared to cut off services to crime scenes, when required by the ministry or other authorities.
They were ordered to strengthen the management of SIM cards. This included cancelling unregistered SIMs and managing the use of foreign “roaming” SIMs.
Vandeth also urged providers to strengthen cybersecurity measures to protect digital systems and to any other implement other administrative or technical measures that may be determined by the Royal Government or the ministry.
“The operators who attended this working meeting expressed a firm commitment to joining the Royal Government and the telecommunications ministry to fight against online scams at all times,” said the ministry.
“They also provided several suggestions as input for the implementation of this policy, as well as general comments regarding the management of the telecommunications sector,” it added.
