Kampong Speu provincial authorities conducted a raid on a suspected online scam operation, arresting six Indonesian nationals and one Cambodian.
During the March 18 operation, in Tang Krasang village, Pneay commune, Samrong Tong district, authorities seized a large amount of evidence, including 59 mobile phones and four accurate replicas of Indonesian police uniforms, as well as 60 packets of white crystalline powder, suspected to be narcotics.
A Secretariat of Commission for Combating Technology Crimes (CCTC) report said that the foreign suspects confessed that they were operating an online scam site.
The operation was allegedly begun by a Cambodian national named Sok Ny and managed by a Chinese national named Hai, both of whom remain at large.
The Cambodian national arrested was reported to be a driver and security guard.
The suspects, as well as the property owner, have been transferred to the Kampong Speu Provincial Police Headquarters for legal proceedings.
On the same day, joint forces under the command of the Phnom Penh Municipal Administration arrested eight Chinese nationals and a Malaysian in a raid in Borey Peng Huoth, Boeung Chhouk village, in the capital’s Chbar Ampov district.
The CCTC reported that authorities seized a substantial amount of evidence, including 247 mobile phones and several computers.
Authorities determined that the group was targeting overseas victims, specifically in Malaysia, Singapore and China.
The police are currently forming a case, with legal action to follow.
