Vladanka Andreeva of North Macedonia has been appointed by UN secretary-general António Guterres as the UN resident coordinator in Cambodia, with the host government’s approval. She took up her post on January 10.
“I am truly honoured to return to Cambodia as the UN resident coordinator and the secretary-general’s representative. Cambodia holds a special place in my professional journey, and it is inspiring to see the country’s continued progress,” she told The Post.
“I am committed to working closely with the Royal Government, development partners, civil society and communities across Cambodia to advance the UN’s support for sustainable development, protect the most vulnerable and help deliver Cambodia’s ambition for a more inclusive, resilient and prosperous future,” she added.
Andreeva has over 25 years of experience in international development, humanitarian coordination, strategic advocacy and partnership building across diverse regions and contexts. Lately, she served as the UN resident coordinator in Azerbaijan, where she led the UN country team in advancing national sustainable development priorities, including in a post-conflict recovery context.
During her tenure in Azerbaijan, Andreeva provided strategic leadership to support system-wide UN engagement in preparations for the twenty-ninth Conference of the Parties COP29, promoting an inclusive and development-centred climate agenda, according to a statement by the UN in Cambodia.
She also advanced work on sustainable urbanisation, strengthening partnerships and supporting national dialogue in the lead-up to the thirteenth World Urban Forum.
Previously, she held several senior roles within the UN frameworks, including as UNAIDS country director in Cambodia, where she also provided leadership for the UN system’s COVID-19 response and coordination efforts, among others.
