An automobile tyre factory owned by Chinese company Wanli Tire (Cambodia) Co., Ltd., , has officially begun operations. With an investment value of nearly $300 million for phase one, the factory is located in the Xin Bavet Special Economic Zone in Svay Rieng province.
The inauguration ceremony was held on the morning of January 12,with the participation of deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol, first vice-chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), and Heng Sour, Minister of Labour and Vocational Training, along with senior officials from various ministries, institutions and other relevant stakeholders.
Chanthol congratulated Wanli on the launch of the plant, describing the company’s investment as a sign of confidence in Cambodia’s investment climate, market conditions and political stability. He added that the opening of the factory is clear evidence of another valuable achievement resulting from the strong cooperative ties between the leadership and people of Cambodia and China.
He emphasised that the event clearly demonstrates the private sector’s trust in Cambodia’s potential, particularly in the Royal Government of Cambodia.
This achievement was the result of an investment promotion mission to China undertaken by Chanthol, along with Cambodian government leaders and private-sector representatives, in October 2023. During the mission, the Cambodian delegation met with Jing Guangjun, chairman of the Board of Guangzhou Industrial Investment Holding Group, and also conducted a site visit to the Wanli Tire factory in Guangzhou, China.
Wanli is a major Chinese company that manufactures a range of well-known tire brands such as Wanli, Milever, Sunny, Aptany and Diamond, which are widely distributed across international markets. The investment in Cambodia represents the company’s first overseas factory. Its production chain is equipped with automation systems and advanced technology.
According to Guangjun, the Cambodian factory has an initial production capacity of approximately 6 million tyres per year in its first phase. This is expected to increase to 12 million tires per year once the plant reaches full operation by the end of 2026.
In 2025, the CDC approved four automobile tyre manufacturing investment projects — one located in the ISI Special Economic Zone in Preah Sihanouk province, and three others in special economic zones in Svay Rieng. Altogether, the four projects represent a total investment capital of approximately $774 million.
The Ministry of Commerce reported that during the first 11 months of 2025, Cambodia exported more than $1.2 billion in automobile tyre products to international markets, an increase of nearly 60 per cent compared to the same period in 2024.
