Unity in Times of War is a powerful force to keep our physical strength and spirits alive. It is imperative this unity be maintained and perfected as no ceasefire yet. It should be also mainstreamed in peacebuilding process.
While Cambodian soldiers in the front line are fighting fiercely against the Thai invaders at the conflicting zones, Cambodian people from all walks of life inside and outside the country are demanding that the Thai military stop threatening Cambodian sovereignty and territory.
They are organising peace marches and preparing aid for the soldiers, as well as the civilians who have been displaced by the fighting. Volunteerism has emerged in the work of humanitarian aid fundraising, food packaging and distribution. This signifies national unity, which is a powerful force against the Thai invaders.
Our conscience prompts positive volunteerism. This comes from the fact that we are innocent and want to live in peace.
The invasion and destruction of civilian homes, schools, hospitals, bridges, pagodas and cultural sites by the Thai military has caused many casualties and displaced hundred thousands of civilians in many Cambodian provinces.
Volunteers from diverse backgrounds are working tirelessly to keep the physical strength and spirits of Cambodian soldiers and the nation alive, to protect our sovereignty and territory as well as our human values and dignity.
As the invasion enters its eleventh day, with no ceasefire imminent, it is imperative that this unity be maintained and perfected. This effort should also be mainstreamed in our peacebuilding process.
