Guangxi Minzu University has appointed Phann Vanrath, deputy prosecutor general to the Supreme Court of Cambodia, as Honorary Professor of the University for the term 2025–2028.
The appointment was presented by university president Wei Shizhen during a ceremony at the China–ASEAN Law School, according to a November 24 press release.
Following the ceremonial appointment, Vanrath delivered a keynote lecture titled “My Journey in Law: Lessons for Young Legal Minds in a Changing World”. He shared insights from his 26 years of judicial service, highlighting the importance of integrity, resilience, ethical responsibility and regional cooperation.
“Vanrath emphasised that law is not a symbol of power, but a duty of service, and encouraged students to pursue careers grounded in courage, professionalism and public trust,” said the release.
“He also highlighted growing China–Cambodia and China–ASEAN cooperation in combating transnational crime, cybercrime, telecom fraud and developing prosecutorial capacity through joint operations and academic partnerships,” it added.
The China–ASEAN Law School at the Guangxi Minzu University continues to serve as an important bridge for regional legal studies, talent development and academic exchange between China and ASEAN countries, said the release.
Last week, Vanrath shared his thought on legal cooperation between ASEAN and China, especially on combating transnational crime, with a special focus of his presentation on combating online scam and human trafficking.
