The number of personal loan applications for small businesses fell by over 15% in the second quarter of 2025, while the rate of loan accounts overdue by more than 90 days rose to +7.4% during the same period.
A report from Credit Bureau Cambodia (CBC), released this week, revealed that small business credit applications fell by 15.7%. The decrease was due to a decrease in Working Capital Applications by 16.3% quarter on quarter, Agriculture Applications by 9.3%, Asset Finance Applications by 20.3% and Others by 24.5%. Construction Applications increased by 4.4%.
The CBC also reported that the total number of loan accounts saw a drop of 1.2% bringing it to around 1.79 million accounts. Outstanding balances grew by 0.8% to reach $35.54 billion by the end of the second quarter.
In terms of credit quality, the instance of 90+DPD was 7.4% higher this quarter than the previous one, at 6.9%. Of the five categories, construction has the highest 90+DPD with a ratio of 11.2%. The largest increase in 90+ DPD was seen in the Tonle Sap region, at 9.2%, the central plateau at 9.0%, the coastal regions at 8.5% and the plains at 6.7%.
The number of personal loan applications for small businesses has declined, and the volume of requested loans also dropped this quarter compared to the previous one. While the number of loan accounts for small businesses decreased by 1.2%, the credit performance remains resilient with an outstanding balance growth of 0.8% in Q2,” noted CBC CEO Oeur Sothearoath.
