Vietnam’s agro-forestry-aquatic product export and import turnover was estimated at $22.6 billion in the first quarter of this year, up 6.3 per cent compared to the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. Ssangbangwool Group, best known for its underwear business, is joining an estimated one trillion won ($819 million) bidding war to acquire debt-ridden carmaker SsangYong Motor whose takeover deal with Edison Motors has recently been called off. The Russia-Ukraine conflict and rising production costs are pressuring Thailand’s export sector, the Thai National Shippers’ Council (TNSC) reports. Thailand’s export value in the first two months this year was $44.74 billion, up 12.2 per cent year-on-year, the TNSC said at the weekend. Vietnam Electricity (EVN) has said that the amount of coal supplied to its thermal power plants (TPP) fell short of the contractual amounts, putting them at risk. The total amount of coal delivered to the TPPs in Q1/2022 was about 4.49 million tonnes, less than 5.85 million tonnes as stated in the contracts. The Philippines is expected to sustain merchandise trade growth in the medium term following reforms conducive to economic recovery, the Department of Finance (DOF) said.
