The newly-launched Cambodia Cashew Federation (CCF), combined with the upcoming National Policy on Cashew Nuts for 2022-2027, is expected to boost exports of the popular kidney-shaped nuts, keeping annual totals above $1 billion each year, observers have said. The government is set to begin deepening of the Kampot International Tourism Port’s waterway and additional improvements “soon” to enable safer access for larger vessels, after the main construction work on the 4.25ha site was completed on June 30, according to Kampot provincial deputy governor Ung Chhay. A total of $25.15 million in loans have been disbursed to 189 tourism-related enterprises under the $150 million Tourism Recovery Co-Financing Scheme (TRCS) as of September 30 – most of which are in the restaurant business – representing just over one-sixth of the scheme’s funds, according to the state-owned Small and Medium Enterprise Bank of Cambodia Plc (SME Bank). Cambodian investors accounted for more than half of the nearly $3.5-billion value of the projects approved by the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) in the first nine months of this year. The General Department of Customs and Excise of Cambodia (GDCE) has collected $19.73 million in levies on previously-untaxed right-hand-drive (RHD) vehicles in the 90 days to October 4, in Phase II of its campaign to get owners of such vehicles to comply with their tax obligations by the October 8 deadline or risk seizure, according to its chief.
