Rents and demand for serviced apartments in Phnom Penh are back on the up, buoyed by the reopening of the country in early November and general improvement in the Covid-19 situation, according to a prominent real estate company. Cambodia welcomed 217,038 visitors from Southeast Asia from January to May of 2022, signifying a 282 per cent jump year-on-year, the Ministry of Tourism said, while noting that nearly 50 per cent of the figure arrived from Vietnam. The tourism ministry on July 4 unveiled an action plan focused around four key visions for the implementation of the recently-launched Mondulkiri Tourism Development Master Plan (“MTDMP”) 2021-2035, at an event in the northeastern province. The prices of red corn have risen significantly in provinces along the Thai border as the year’s first harvest season kicks off, while Chinese investors look into exporting the pumpkin-hued cultivar to China, according to the top Battambang provincial commerce official. Cambodia spent $971.30 million on imports of petrol and diesel in the first five months of this year, up by 57.36 per cent from the $617.24 million shipped in during the corresponding period in 2021, according to the commerce ministry.
