Koh Kong province’s Botum Sakor district was announced mine-free today, April 29, thanks to mine clearance efforts which were supported by the Indian government. The Guimet Museum in Paris, France, opened the “Angkor Royal Bronzes: Art of the Divine” exhibition on April 28. The unique display showcases over 200 Khmer artefacts, most notably a four-metre reclining Vishnu bronze statue from the Western Mebon temple. The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has signed a Record of Discussions with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries to provide approximately $12 million in grant aid. Three vessels of the Russian Federation Navy have docked at Sihanoukville Autonomous Port (PAS), while a Vietnamese gunboat is visiting the recently modernised Ream Naval Base. The Phnom Penh Military Police have broken open a major fraud operation, with at least one victim losing as much as $7 million. The victim was misled into believing that genuine US dollars could be used to “clean” $28 million in “stained” dollars, which would then be shared with the gullible victim. Cambodia anticipates that malaria will be totally eradicated by the end of 2025, in line with the National Strategic Plan for Malaria Elimination (2011-2025).
