The Kandal Provincial Court on December 2 sentenced 13 Filipino women to four years each, with two years suspended, for their involvement in a surrogacy scheme. A Cambodian housekeeper was also convicted for not reporting the crimes. Anyone who excavates, digs or drills to install drainage systems or connect to wastewater systems without authorisation will now find themselves facing stiff penalties and possible jail time, thanks to newly-introduced legislation. Article 104 of the recently promulgated Law on Wastewater Systems outlines terms of imprisonment from one month to a year and fines ranging from 400,000 riel ($100) to 4,000,000 riel ($1,000). A recent UNESCO report revealed that two-thirds of social media content creators do not verify whether the information they post is accurate. Furthermore, 73 percent of surveyed creators expressed a desire for training on fact-checking. The report, “Behind the Screens: Insight From Content Creators”, published on November 26, surveyed 500 online content creators from 45 countries and territories through an online poll. Additionally, 20 creators were interviewed in-depth to understand their practices and challenges.
