Gold prices have fluctuated in a bearish trend for nearly three weeks, supported by the possibility of continued US interest rate hikes and gains in the dollar index, which traditionally moves inversely against the safe-haven asset. As of Tuesday, the gold price had plunged from $1,947 to $1,822 per ounce, a decline of $125. Despite the downturn technically indicating fatigue in the trend, the market was still reluctant to launch any buy-back positions as the greenback’s supporting fundamentals remained valid with a long-term effect. Despite opening at $1,900.35 per ounce on Wednesday with a daily downtrend, gold held firm with expectations the long-term value would rise. Gold prices remained resilient and were expected to trade towards their prior high of $1,947 per ounce due to rising expectations the US Federal Reserve would reach its current target interest rate. Recent developments regarding the BRICS – Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa – group of countries were also likely to put pressure on the dollar. The current federal funds rate range is 5.25-5.50 per cent, and the US Fed remains committed to bringing high inflation…
As the world swelters in record heat again this year, we would be wise to remember that an important part of the solution to mitigating climate change is to preserve the tropical forests we have left and replant the ones that have been lost. With their wealth of knowledge of ecosystems, sustainable practices and resistance to deforestation, indigenous people are guardians of some of the world’s most important forests. And yet for too long the voices of indigenous people fighting to preserve the natural environment have been ignored. That must change. Forests are essential in the fight against climate change.…
The dollar-yen currency pair was supported in the mid-147-yen range as of September 20 and updated its year-to-date high, which was slightly above the 147.96 recorded last Friday, rising to 147.98. And from a fundamental aspect, there are also many factors suggesting a rise in the dollar-yen exchange rate. These include expectations of prolonged fiscal tightening by the US Federal Reserve and predictions of a continuation of monetary easing by the Bank of Japan. As…
