Santo Darmosumarto, Indonesian ambassador to Cambodia, shared his optimism over deepening economic and community ties between Indonesia and Kampot province, during his August 6 official visit.

Welcomed by Kampot provincial governor Mao Thonin, Santo commended the local authorities for their success in developing the province into a popular tourist destination.

“I am convinced that Kampot will become a preferred destination for those looking for the natural beauty and rich cultural traditions of Cambodia,” said the ambassador, as he praised the province’s growing appeal to both local and international visitors.

Beyond tourism, the visit spotlighted opportunities for bilateral trade and investment.

With Kampot well-known for its world-renowned pepper and distinctive durian, Santo expressed hope for enhanced agricultural trade and stronger economic ties.

Governor Thonin echoed his sentiment, noting that Kampot is ready to welcome Indonesian investors, particularly in agriculture, infrastructure, manufacturing and tourism.

“We are open to cooperation and partnerships with Indonesia,” the governor said.

“Kampot has the resources, and we welcome international collaboration to boost local development,” he added.

The two officials also discussed the expanding Indonesian community in Kampot.

Santo extended his appreciation to the provincial government for supporting the Indonesian nationals living and working in the area.

“We hope that Indonesians living in Kampot will contribute positively to the local community,” he added.

As part of the visit, the ambassador toured a spring water factory and a pepper plantation to better understand the province’s economic landscape.

He also met with members of the Kampot Chamber of Commerce and observed the strong presence of Indonesian products in local supermarkets — an indication of growing consumer preference.

The visit underscores Indonesia’s commitment to enhancing provincial-level engagement in Cambodia, building on shared cultural ties and economic cooperation, noted the embassy.
