The Phnom Penh Autonomous Port (PPAP) generated more than $9 million in revenue in the first two months of the year, an increase of nearly 40% compared with the same period in 2025. Analysts have attributed the rise to the Kingdom’s expanding import-export activities.

A report issued by the port late last week described its performance as showing strong progress. The port recorded $9.11 million in revenue, up 37% compared with the $6.67 million from the same period in 2025.

Total revenue consisted of $7.69 million from port operations, $1.24 million from port authority services and $0.18 million from other services.

In February alone, PPAP generated $4.37 million in revenue, an increase of 40% over February 2025.

Hong Vanak, an economist at the Royal Academy of Cambodia, told The Post on March 16 that the growing productivity of domestic factories and enterprises has led to a continuous increase in cargo transportation by waterways, roads and air. He noted that PPAP’s revenue is expected to rise even further once the Funan Techo Canal project — linking the port to the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port — becomes operational.

He believed the Funan Techo Canal will bring significant benefits to Cambodia, particularly to the transportation sector, such as reducing transportation costs, shortening travel time and distance, lowering road damage and easing traffic congestion and road accidents.

“The revenue of the Phnom Penh Autonomous Port will increase significantly once the Funan Techo Canal project is operational. In general, waterway transportation provides greater cost efficiency and allows larger cargo volumes to be transported,” he explained.

Chea Chandata, president of the Logistics and Supply Chain Business Association in Cambodia, said that Cambodia’s cargo transportation sector has experienced strong momentum since late 2023, driven by an increasing amount of direct investment in Cambodia, which has helped stimulate growth in logistics and cargo transport.
