Connectivity between Cambodia and countries around the world — especially nations in Europe and the Arab region — will expand even further now that Turkish Airlines has officially launched direct flights between Istanbul (Türkiye) and Phnom Penh.

With this new destination, Cambodia became the 7th country served by the Turkish flag carrier in Southeast Asia and Phnom Penh joined the network as the 11th city in the region. Strengthening commercial ties between Türkiye and Cambodia and contributing to the economic growth of this emerging market, the Phnom Penh route expands the airline’s Far East network to 20 cities and 21 airports.

This new route offers Turkish Airlines’ guests’ easier access to one of the key destinations in the region and showcase once more the unparalleled connectivity the Turkish flag carrier offers as the only European carrier flying to this destination.

Turkish Airlines operates flights to Phnom Penh three times a week. Flights from Istanbul to Phnom Penh depart on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, while return flights to Istanbul operate on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

According to the Ministry of Tourism, during the first 10 months of 2025, a total of 7,479 Turkish nationals visited Cambodia — an increase of 23.4% compared to the same period in 2025. In 2024, a total of 8,363 Turkish nationals visited Cambodia.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony for the new flight route from Istanbul to Phnom Penh, held at Techo International Airport on the afternoon of December 11, Turkish Airlines CEO Bilal Ekşi said that “As Turkish Airlines, we continuously expand our network connecting continents and strengthen our connections with strategic destinations. Adding Cambodia as our 132nd country to our unparalleled network, the launch of Phnom Penh flights marks a significant step forward in this goal. Our flights to Cambodia will present new opportunities for both tourism and business. Additionally, as the only European carrier flying to this destination, we will further solidify our leadership in the region.”

“This global growth is built on our award-winning service. It carries the warm spirit of Turkish hospitality and offers every guest a high-quality travel experience. Today’s launch shows clearly how important Southeast Asia is for Turkish Airlines. This region is a strong centre for global trade, tourism and cultural exchange. And it has the power to grow even more.

”I am proud to say that with Phnom Penh, we are now stronger in this key region. This new route helps trade and tourism between Türkiye and Cambodia. It also opens new opportunities across Southeast Asia,” he added.

Mao Havannell, Minister in charge of the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA), noted that the establishment of the new route is not only an important milestone for the Kingdom’s aviation sector, but also a symbol of the deepening friendship and cooperation between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Republic of Türkiye.

He shared how the introduction of Turkish Airlines’ scheduled flights will play a crucial role in strengthening Cambodia’s connectivity to Europe and beyond, expanding travel choices for international tourists coming to Cambodia, supporting the growth of business exchanges and economic cooperation, and enhancing Cambodia’s presence within the global aviation network.

“Today, we celebrate not only the opening of a new route, but also the opening of new opportunities for our two nations. We firmly believe that this partnership will grow stronger and bring long-term mutual benefits for both Cambodia and Türkiye,” he added.
