Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Prak Sokhonn, will spearhead a delegation to the 56th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (56th AMM) and related discussions. The meetings will take place in Jakarta, Indonesia, from July 11 to 14.

This year’s AMM will operate under the theme “ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth,” according to a ministry press statement.

The ministry has announced that the focal point of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and associated discussions will be the exploration of innovative methods to advance the ASEAN Community building process. This will be achieved while promoting greater unity and solidarity within ASEAN through practical actions.

The statement further elaborated, “The deliberations will also encompass the preservation of ASEAN’s pivotal role as a catalyst for sustainable global growth and address a range of regional and international issues of common interest and concern”.

These meetings will provide a platform for the bloc’s foreign ministers to bolster ASEAN centrality and strengthen the association’s external relations.

The ultimate aim is to ensure ASEAN continues to hold relevance as the “Epicentrum of Global Growth”.

Alongside the meetings, several countries will formally join the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC). The foreign ministers, alongside ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn, will witness the signing of the Instrument of Accession.
