The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on Wednesday, November 26, reiterated to  the public and the media that Cambodia has reaffirmed its firm adherence to the One-China policy regarding the Taiwan issue, amid rising tensions between China and Japan.

The ministry statement was in response to several media inquiries regarding Cambodia’s views on the recent tension between Japan and China over the issue of Chinese Taipei. The ministry wishes to emphasise that Cambodia strongly advocates for efforts to maintain regional peace, stability and harmony, based on the principle of mutual respect and peaceful resolution of differences and disputes.

“Cambodia resolutely adheres to the One-China Policy and recognises that the Government of the People’s Republic of China is the sole lawful government representing the whole of China, and that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory,” it stated.

Cambodia considers the issue related to Taiwan an internal affair of the People’s Republic of China, supports China’s effort to achieve national reunification, while opposing any form of ‘Taiwanese independence’, it said.
