Prime Minister Hun Sen calls on all stakeholders to continue developing the skills of the Kingdom’s workforce, as the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training celebrates the 6th National Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Day under the theme “TVET provides skills and decent jobs” on June 15.

Hun Sen issued a congratulatory message and praised the efforts of the labour ministry in successfully implementing the priority policy and in-depth reforms set by the government for TVET.

He called for the Kingdom’s peace and stability to be maintained, noting that is a necessary condition of continued development, in order to increase productivity and competitiveness while creating jobs that will enhance people’s living standards.

“All stakeholders must continue to support the implementation of the National TVET Policy 2017-2025, so as to achieve the government’s vision of human resource development through knowledge, skills, professional ethics, high productivity and competitiveness for a lifetime,” he said.

“We must also promote the implementation of the official roadmap for the development of the automotive and electronics sector in Cambodia, the roadmap for the development of the Cambodian textile and garment industry 2023-2027 and the roadmap for the development of skills in Cambodia 2023-2035,” he added.

He encouraged more people to enrol in technical and vocational skills training so they will be able to meet the needs of the future labour market.

“State institutions, authorities at all levels, educators, students, parents, guardians, the private sector, NGOs, development partners and all compatriots must participate in promoting the 6th national TVET day this year,” said Hun Sen.

Labour minister Ith Samheng presided over the official celebration of the event, held in Phnom Penh on June 15 and attended by representatives of private companies and international organisations. The occasion served to highlight the progress of the TVET education sector, especially students’ work on drones, robots and other cutting-edge technology.

The two-day event also features lectures by well-known guest speakers, such as the venerable Kou Sopheap and Mengly J Quach of his namesake education conglomerate.

National TVET Day has been celebrated on June 15 every year since 2018.
