Prime Minister Hun Manet briefed Vladanka Andreeva, UN resident coordinator in Cambodia, on recent developments concerning the situation along the Cambodia-Thailand border, noting that the UN wishes to see Thailand and Cambodia resolve their dispute peacefully.

During the March 2 meeting, Manet reiterated that Cambodia maintains its stance on resolving border issues peacefully, based on international law, conventions, treaties and existing bilateral agreements between the two countries.

He recently returned from a visit to the US where he met with US President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace, as well as UN secretary-general António Guterres, president of the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly Annalena Baerbock and UN high commissioner for human rights Volker Türk.

During today’s meeting, Andreeva also noted that the UN wishes to see Cambodia and Thailand resolve their differences peacefully, in accordance with the UN Charter and international law.

She was recently appointed as resident coordinator, although she has previously served with UN agencies in Cambodia for many years.

She expressed her gratitude to Cambodia for its 20-year contribution to global peacekeeping missions through the continuous deployment of Blue Helmet troops to serve under the UN umbrella.

“I expressed my sincere appreciation for Cambodia’s strong commitment to promoting global peace and security. Cambodia has transformed from a country that once hosted UN peacekeeping forces into a pillar of global security,” she told The Post.

“This year marks the 20th anniversary of Cambodia’s participation in UN peacekeeping missions. Since 2006, Cambodia has deployed over 10,000 peacekeepers, including more than 900 women, to missions in various countries,” she added.

She noted that she highlighted the excellent cooperation between Cambodian institutions and UN agencies based in Cambodia, adding that the UN will continue to support Cambodia in areas such as job creation, upskilling and human capital development.

“We discussed the longstanding partnership between the UN and the people of Cambodia. The UN is fully committed to Cambodia’s next chapter,” she said.

“As the nation prepares to graduate from LDC status, I have reiterated the UN family’s commitment to provide technical support needed to reach this milestone, ensuring that no community, especially those affected by the recent border conflict, is left behind,” she added.
