Minister of Education, Youth and Sport Hang Chuon Naron has suggested that the Room to Read, an international non-profit, continue to cooperate with the ministry in order to ensure that all schools have libraries and that teachers continue to be trained to international standards.

The suggestion came as he attended an August 25 meeting on promoting reading at libraries, held by Room to Read in Phnom Penh.

The ministry said on August 26 that the meeting participants had discussed ways to strengthen reading and writing skills in grades 1 through 3, as well as professional development through training teachers, school principals and librarians.

It added that the participants also discussed ways to share learning outcomes and best practices with local communities as a means of building technical resources of cluster schools and districts, noting that this may be the key to successfully expanding the scope of the programme in the coming years.
