Over 9,000 candidates from across the country took entrance examinations at health training institutions for the 2022-2023 academic year, a number that was less than expected according to the Ministry of Health.

The ministry’s human resources development department said a total of 9,945 candidates took the exams after the ministry announced that it would enroll nearly 11,000 students for the institutions’ Bachelor’s and Associate’s degree programmes in the coming months.

It first announced on December 26 that the number of students with a high school diploma to be enrolled in first-year classes at the health training institutes for this academic year was set at 10,845.

The National Examination Committee for Training in the Field of Health divides students into two levels – those studying for a four-year Bachelor’s degree and those for a two-year Associate’s degree.

Bachelor’s degree students were divided into different majors for the exams: 900 general practitioners, 860 med students, 460 general dentists, 720 nurses, 445 midwives, 40 public health students and 120 physiotherapists.

The Associate’s degree majors were also divided up: 3,150 nurses, 2,420 midwives, 980 laboratory technicians, 420 dentists, 170 physical therapists and 160 radiologists.

The results of the examinations will be announced in the coming months.
