A senior official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has reiterated that the government and Cambodian diplomats are continuing ceaseless efforts to safeguard sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as Cambodia’s national interests, through diplomatic channels.

The statement was made by Chan Ratana, acting ministry spokesperson, during a January 13 press conference.

“Following the entry into force of the ceasefire on December 27, 2025, the Royal Government of Cambodia, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, continues its unceasing efforts to safeguard sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as Cambodia’s national interests, through diplomatic channels based on the UN Charter and the ASEAN Charter, particularly the principles of non-use of force or the threat of force to resolve disputes and demarcate borders, as well as international humanitarian law, emphasizing the right to life of civilians,” he said.

He continued that Cambodian diplomats are persisting in urging the international community to provide support and intervene so that all displaced Cambodians can return to their homes and resume their daily lives with safety, dignity and without obstruction.

“At the same time, we continue to urge the Thai side to cease the activities of the Thai military, such as the dismantling and destruction of homes and civil infrastructure, preventing Cambodian people from entering their homes, and to stop implementing measures to strengthen their illegal presence in Cambodian villages that they have seized by force,” he added.

Cambodia also urged the Thai side to return to cooperation to accelerate the work of the Cambodia-Thailand Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) in demarcating the border between the two countries based on legal grounds previously agreed upon by both sides, according to Ratana.

He added that the foreign ministry is continuing to work through formal bilateral channels with Thailand and communicating at all levels with all friendly nations that are working to restore peace and stability between Cambodia and Thailand, as well as the world at large.

“At the regional level, we will continue to work with the Philippines, the new ASEAN chair, and continue to utilise ASEAN mechanisms to promote the peace process and long-term harmony within the ASEAN family to maintain and uplift ASEAN’s prestige,” he said.

In international forums, the Cambodian Permanent Missions to the UN in New York and Geneva, as well as to relevant organisations, have issued letters requesting intervention and have met for discussions with leaders of key organisations such as the UN secretary-general, the president and members of the UN Security Council, UNESCO, the president of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), High Representatives for Human Rights and the special rapporteur on the right to housing, among others.

Following the entry into force of the ceasefire on December 27, the Thai military is occupying Cambodian territory in violation of international law in parts of four provinces — Banteay Meanchey, Pursat, Preah Vihear and Oddar Meanchey, according to a recent statement by the foreign ministry.
