Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Dith Tina highlighted the significant part that agriculture plays in Phase I of the “Pentagonal Strategy” recently launched by the new government.
The strategy was described in detail during the new government’s first Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Hun Manet at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh on August 24, with six priority policies outlined and slated to be introduced this year.
In a social media post, Tina noted that two of the six key priorities pertain to the Kingdom’s agriculture sector.
He said they include establishing mechanisms and finance programmes that will boost production, unlocking new markets and stabilising the prices of key products, as well as deploying agricultural specialists to all communes throughout the country. More farmer communities will also be organised in rural areas to promote contract farming and allow farmers to negotiate collectively.
