Minister of Tourism Huot Hak has continued his campaign to reassure the public of Cambodia’s safety as a tourism destination, this time using the opportunity affording him by a beauty pageant.

He addressed the “Miss Planet International 2025” finale last night, March 15, noting that the Kingdom remains a safe destination with immense tourism potential, offering a wide variety of beautiful and unique attractions, especially natural resources, cultural heritage, stunning coastal areas and the warm hospitality of the Cambodian the people.

Cambodian-American Sydney Marith was crowned Miss Planet International 2025 at last night’s ceremony.

“I am very fortunate to have received a high-quality education, and I believe that every child deserves this education to achieve their dreams,” she told the assembled crowd.

“Education is the foundation of our communities, our nations and our planet. Our youth are our future, and it is our duty to invest in them and provide the opportunities they need to realise their dreams,” she said.

Marith has previously worked with several organisations in Cambodia, including Plan International, where she used her profile to raise awareness about the importance of ending child marriage in Cambodia so that young girls can complete their education and pursue their dreams, according to Plan International.

The event attracted more than 2,000 domestic and international guests, along with contestants from 33 nations.

“Cambodia has continuously ensured the safety and security of all travellers and international guests. Hosting Miss Planet International 2025 in Phnom Penh clearly demonstrates Cambodia’s capacity and readiness to organize major international events,” noted the tourism minister.
