A UNODC representative has expressed support for increased cooperation with Cambodia to suppress online crimes and also discussed continued training to strengthen the capacity of Cambodian authorities in combating these crimes and raising awareness of them.

Chhay Sinarith, Senior Minister in Charge of Special Missions and head of the Secretariat of the Commission for Combating Technology Crimes (CCTC), met with Rebecca Miller, regional coordinator for Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) for Southeast Asia and the Pacific, on January 21.

According to the CCTC, UNODC cooperation with Cambodia covers several key areas, including support for the fight against technology crimes.

Sinarith told Miller that Cambodia continues to pay close attention to opposing technology scams and human trafficking by implementing clear and strict measures.

Miller commended the Cambodian government, as well as Cambodian authorities, for their efforts in combating technology crimes. She also spoke highly of the measures implemented by the government to eliminate them, according to the CCTC.

“Rebecca Miller said UNODC fully supports cooperation with the Royal Government in combating these technology crimes,” said the CCTC.

“No country can solve this problem without cooperation,” it added.
