A joint police team led by the Chbar Ampov District Unified Command conducted an October 9 raid on a suspected online scam site. Two Vietnamese men were arrested, with multiple pieces of evidence seized.
The raid took place at house No. 72, San Roy Street, Svay Ta Ok village, Veal Sbov commune, in Phnom Penh’s Chbar Ampov district.
“During the operation, police arrested two suspects, identified as Phan Thanh Dat and Phan Huu Khanh, Numerous pieces of evidence were seized, including four all-in-one computers, 20 monitors, and seven CPUs,” said a police statement.
The action was carried out in close cooperation with a specialist team from the Phnom Penh Municipal Police, under the supervision of the Deputy Prosecutor of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court.
Based on the investigation, the two suspects are believed to be involved in multiple serious offenses, including illegal online gambling, forging public documents to defraud Vietnamese citizens and running fraudulent investment schemes.
The suspects, along with the seized evidence, were transferred to the Phnom Penh Municipal Police Commissariat for further legal proceedings.
Authorities stated that “the operation formed part of a nationwide campaign to eliminate technology-based fraud, launched by the Royal Government of Cambodia on July 14”.
They reaffirmed their commitment to pursuing the strictest legal action against the people behind such crimes to maintain national security and public order.
