The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport and several private schools have announced free in-person and online learning opportunities for displaced students, after more than 900 schools were forced to close — affecting over 210,000 students as of yesterday morning.
The ministry has announced that all displaced students are allowed to temporarily enrol in nearby schools close to evacuation centres or at the locations where they are currently staying, based on their preference.
Additionally, the ministry has issued guidelines to relevant departments, public educational institutions, teachers, parents and guardians to support the continued learning of displaced students. These include organising temporary classes and schedules, offering regular counselling and motivational support and forming study clubs to help them, especially Grade 9 and Grade 12 students.
The ministry is preparing to publish information about online learning programmes accessible that will be available through mobile phones for students from Grade 7 to Grade 12, such as the “MoEYS EdTech App”.
All students affected by the conflict should download the EdTech application to continue learning anytime.
There is also the ministry’s E-Learning platform, which offers electronic learning materials — including videos for Grades 1–12, e-textbooks and student assessment tools. Displaced students can download the E-Learning app via the link provided in the announcement.
The PLP primary learning programme, a self-study platform, has also been recommended by the ministry and can be accessed on the website provided.
According to the ministry, 909 schools across six provinces have been closed, affecting 7,601 teachers and 216,107 students as of the morning of December 11.
Among many private educational institutions offering support, the ministry also announced that E-School Cambodia is providing free online classes for all students affected by the conflict, via registration through the link included in the notice.
To further support displaced teachers, educators, and students currently sheltering at evacuation sites, the ministry is calling for donations — including financial support, learning materials, food supplies, daily necessities and medicine — according to each person’s ability and generosity.
