The Asian Development Bank (ADB) announced a new financial support package on March 24. The assistance aims to help developing member countries handle the economic fallout from the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Describing the assistance as “rapid, flexible, and scalable”, the ADB explained that it focuses on immediate fiscal pressures as well as long-term resilience. Among the measures are fast-disbursing budget support and expanded trade and supply chain financing to secure essential imports, including oil. Minister of Environment Eang Sophalleth has ordered stricter enforcement against natural resource crimes, as details emerged of a formal warning issued to the deputy director of the Mondulkiri Provincial Department of Environment for lack of responsibility. Din Bunthoeun was issued a warning on March 9, following a February 3 “clarification” meeting report from the provincial department. The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries officially signed a five-year project agreement on March 23, renewing their shared commitment to protecting Cambodia’s vital fishery resources across the Sre Ambel River System in Koh Kong, as well as the Mekong River. A new biodiversity survey, published March 23, has revealed the vast array of species living within Cambodia’s karst ecosystems. Exploring over 60 caves across ten hills in the Battambang Province, western Cambodia, the survey uncovers a treasure trove of extraordinary creatures, many found nowhere else on Earth. Karst landscapes are formed from limestone hills and caves, creating unique features such as sinkholes, springs and underground streams. It started with a motorcycle.
