Phnom Penh Municipal police chief Chuon Narin has instructed the capital’s special intervention forces to conduct regular training in crowd control, hostage rescue and the use of riot shields, in order to further strengthen public order.
His orders were delivered on Wednesday, September 17, during a meeting of Phnom Penh’s special intervention officers. He aimed to ensure that his forces are 100 per cent prepared to suppress crime and protect the safety and security of the public, as well as improve social order, according to the Phnom Penh Municipal Police.
Narin emphasised that the intervention forces in the capital’s 14 district police inspectorates, must organise both manpower and equipment, allocate forces wisely, and above all, conduct regular training in key strategies and techniques.
These include countering demonstrations, responding to terrorist attacks, hostage rescue and the use of riot shields. Such training is essential to strengthen security and prevent any malicious attempts to undermine the country’s peace.
In particular, he stressed the need to be prepared to carry out orders to defend Cambodia’s territorial sovereignty in the event of any foreign aggression, should the nation require it.
The meeting was attended by deputy commissioners in charge of planning, operations staff, intervention force commanders, deputy planning chiefs and intervention and inspection officers, as well as the 14 district police inspectors.
