Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Dith Tina on August 18 met with Constance Chemwayi, the newly-appointed non-resident ambassador of Zimbabwe to Cambodia, to discuss agricultural cooperation.
During their meeting, held at the ministry headquarters in Phnom Penh, Tina recalled how Cambodia transformed from a food-scarce nation into one that not only ensures its own food security but also exports agricultural products.
He highlighted that the Kingdom now exports both paddy and milled rice. He attributed these achievements to, among other factors, the nation’s farmers adopting generically pure rice seed varieties, utilising modern machinery and embracing advanced agricultural techniques. He said that such adaptations have considerably reduced costs as supported by the agriculture ministry.
The minister further emphasised the ongoing cooperation between Cambodia and Zimbabwe, pointing out that the Kingdom continues to look for agricultural collaboration and expertise.
“We welcome any researchers keen on contributing to our agricultural growth, in line with the government’s objectives … We have made great strides in agricultural production, ensuring we focus on quality and high-value standards,” he said.
Acknowledging the similarities between the agricultural sectors of Cambodia and Zimbabwe, he expressed his eagerness to further this partnership. The minister believes that through mutual cooperation, both nations can strengthen their agricultural sectors, ensuring food security and safety for their citizens.
