The Ministry of Health has issued reminders that members of the public should continue to be vigilant of Covid-19, noting that despite the situation improving, it remains a threat.
The call came from Or Vandine, ministry secretary of state, on June 11, as she shared the WHO’s five-point guidelines on Covid-19 protection.
“Although the Covid-19 situation has improved, under the ‘new normal’, we need to continue to take steps to protect ourselves,” said Vandine, who is also the ministry spokeswoman.
She explained that the WHO had published its long-term Covid protection measures on June 10.
“The WHO identified five major areas for preventing the virus. People should make sure their vaccinations are up to date, should avoid crowded or poorly ventilated spaces, wash their hands regularly, maintain social distancing, and wear masks if forced to share crowded spaces.
While meeting with more than 16,000 workers in Kandal province’s Kandal Stung district on June 10, Prime Minister Hun Sen said he had planned to meet with them in 2020, but the visit was interrupted by the pandemic.
“I wanted to begin the second round of workers’ meetings in 2020, but the spread of Covid-19, and the necessary measures that were introduced – like compulsory testing – meant it was not possible,” he explained.
According to the health ministry, as of the morning of June 11, Cambodia had recorded a total of 138,842 Covid-19 infections, with 135,746 recoveries and 3,056 deaths.
