The Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training will celebrate World Day for Safety and Health at Work with the theme: “A Safe and Healthy Work Environment is a Basic Right”. It will also commemorate those who have passed away from occupational accidents.
Minister Ith Samheng said in an April 11 notice that the day is celebrated on April 28 each year by all member countries of the International Labour Organisation (ILO).
The day would be used to promote safe, healthy workplaces and remember those who passed away from workplace accidents or disease.
“This is the 18th year that the ministry has observed World Day for Safety and Health at Work,” it said.
The day will be marked on April 28, with the participation of around 1,300 representatives from state institutions, employers, trade unions and workers.
“In order to reduce occupational accidents and diseases, the owners or management of factories and other manufacturing enterprises should erect banners in front of their premises which underscore the importance of work safety and health,” added the notice.
It explained that all workplaces should promote a culture of safety and health, and should implement systems which ensure that risks to workers are minimised.
