Vietnam officially opened the Vinh Xuong International Land and Waterway Border Gate in An Giang province at Cambodia’s Kaam Samnor International Border Checkpoint in Kandal province’s Leuk Dek district on February 23.
Kandal provincial deputy governor Nob Dara attended the opening ceremony and said he appreciated the An Giang provincial administration for opening this international checkpoint to operate in conjunction with Cambodia’s Kaam Samnor checkpoint, which was established in 2001.
Dara said that the Vinh Xuong-Kaam Samnor checkpoint is an important connection between Vietnam’s An Giang province and Cambodia’s Kandal province.
“The Kaam Samnor-Vinh Xuong International Border Checkpoint contributes a lot to strengthening our cooperation on trade, commerce, investment, exchange of goods both light and heavy and agricultural products between the people of the two countries,” he said.
He urged the authorities in both provinces to continue good cooperation in information sharing, preventing illegal border crossings and stopping cross border crimes. Authorities in both provinces should also facilitate the smooth transport of agricultural products, he said.
The chairman of the An Giang Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Binh said that An Giang province and Kandal province had enjoyed good cooperation, especially in preventing the spread of Covid-19.
“I wish for the friendship, solidarity and cooperation between Cambodia and Vietnam, especially between An Giang and Kandal provinces to continue to be strong, sustainable and long-lasting,” he said.
