Andreas Scheuer, chairman of the Board of the Asia Bridge Foundation, has reportedly expressed his confidence that relations and commercial cooperation between Cambodia and Germany will continue to improve in the future.
He shared his thoughts during an October 22 meeting with Sun Chanthol, first vice-chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC). German ambassador Stefan Messerer was also in attendance.
According to the CDC, key topics discussed in the meeting included: professional experience, Cambodia’s investment climate, economic diversification and investment goals, international trade, infrastructure development and digital technology.
Chanthol highlighted the progress of investment project approvals in 2024 by the CDC and noted expectations that new records would be set in 2025. He suggested that these accomplishments reflect strong efforts to improve Cambodia’s investment environment, making it more effective and trustworthy for foreign direct investment.
Scheuer praised various reforms that have transformed Cambodia in recent years. He also commended the vision and strong commitment of the CDC leadership in driving Cambodia toward its 2050 vision of becoming a high-income country.
“We are committed to promoting the positive aspects and potential of Cambodia through this visit and will further disseminate this message to business and trade communities connected with the Asia Bridge Foundation. We strongly hope that cooperation and relations between Cambodia and Germany will continue to grow in the future,” he said.
The Asia Bridge Foundation (officially named Asienbrücke e.V. – Euro-Asian-Initiative) was established in Berlin, Germany, in September 2019. Its primary mission is to strengthen cooperation between Germany (and the EU) and the Asia-Pacific region.
Germany is currently Cambodia’s 8th largest trading partner, following China, the US, Vietnam, Thailand, Japan, Canada and Spain.
According to the General Department of Customs and Excise (GDCE), from January to September 2025, total trade volume between Cambodia and Germany reached $844.49 million, an increase of 7.6% over the same period in 2024. Cambodia exported $690.55 million worth of goods to Germany (up 2.8%), while importing $153.94 million worth, up 36.5%.
