Cambodia and Zimbabwe have reaffirmed their commitment to promoting business activities between the two countries through strengthening relations and pursuing the signing of memoranda of understanding (MoUs) between their respective chambers of commerce, at a time when current bilateral trade between the two nations remains minimal.

This affirmation was made during a December 2 meeting in Phnom Penh between Lim Heng, vice-president of the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce (CCC), and Constrance Chemwayi, Zimbabwe’s ambassador to Cambodia, who is based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The meeting aimed to strengthen and promote cooperation in the fields of economy, trade and investment.

Zimbabwe is a landlocked country in Southern Africa with a population of around 16.87 million. Its main exports are mineral resources, including gold, and agricultural products.

Chemwayi expressed her pleasure at visiting Cambodia for the second time and thanked the CCC leadership for taking the time to meet with the Zimbabwean delegation.

She added that the delegation is very interested in Cambodia’s rapid economic growth, especially its development of international-standard infrastructure such as roads, ports and the Techo International Airport.

“Zimbabwe has a strong willingness to promote business activities between Zimbabwe and Cambodia through strengthening relations and signing MoUs between the two countries’ chambers of commerce,” she said.

“Zimbabwe and Cambodia share many similarities in terms of economic activities, development levels and population size,” she added.

She also invited the CCC delegation to make an official visit and participate in an international exhibition in Zimbabwe, scheduled for April 2026. She also promised to invite Zimbabwean business delegations to participate in future events in Cambodia.

According to the ambassador, Zimbabwe and Cambodia have the potential to expand cooperation in several key sectors such as agriculture, tourism and mineral resources.

Heng stated that Cambodia’s private sector, through the CCC, fully supports all initiatives aimed at promoting trade and investment between the two countries. He added that the CCC would consider leading a business delegation to attend the trade exhibition in Zimbabwe as invited.

“Connecting with the CCC is like opening an economic gateway to the entire ASEAN market,” he said.

He emphasised that, as representatives of Cambodia’s business community, the CCC consistently organises events to promote trade and investment, in line with government policy. The CCC currently has cooperation partners around the world, especially within the ASEAN region, which has 11 member states.

“The CCCC will work with our Zimbabwean counterparts to explore the possibility of signing a memorandum of understanding in the future,” he noted.
