Locally produced animal feed is expecting to take a larger share of the Cambodian market in the near future, as the result of a new agreement driven by the Ministry of Commerce. Three feed production companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the ministry to cooperate in the promotion of local corn, cassava and other raw materials.

The MoU signing ceremony was attended by Minister of Commerce Cham Nimul, along with representatives of Khmer Fresh Milk Co., Ltd., Greenfeed Cambodia and Dang Khao Pang Animal Feed Enterprise.

Nimul emphasised the vital role of the private sector — especially animal feed companies in Cambodia — in utilising locally sourced agricultural products to increase productivity. The new agreement aims to improve agricultural supply, create more business opportunities, increase farmers’ incomes and uplift the livelihoods of Cambodian farmers.

“Through this MoU, the three animal feed companies will purchase 54,000 tonnes of red corn, 13,000 tonnes of cassava, 12,800 tonnes of rice bran and 30,000 tonnes of broken rice each year,” she explained.

She instructed a ministry working group to continue strengthening their collaboration with relevant ministries and institutions in preparing agricultural planting and purchasing plans with farmers.

This includes organising coordination between companies, cooperatives or farmer communities, and feed manufacturers — while also focusing on compliance with quality standards to ensure stable supply, purchasing commitments and food safety for consumers.

“I offer my sincere appreciation to all animal feed producers in Cambodia for their continued close and active cooperation with the Royal Government, especially the ministry, in fully implementing the MoUs agreed upon,” she added.

On March 19, 2025, the ministry signed a similar agreement with six other feed companies.

At the beginning of the year, Srun Pov, president of the Cambodia Livestock Raisers Association, urged all stakeholders to join with the association to become a strong driving force in promoting health, food safety, national food security and to strengthen Cambodia’s animal husbandry sector — contributing to building and strengthening the national economic foundation, in line with the government’s national economic development policy.
