Cambodia hopes to attract more international tourists, especially from the US, as Singapore Airlines – one of the world’s most highly regarded national carriers – announced the launch of sales of Premium Economy Class seats. The class comes with a variety of special offerings for their customers.

According to Singapore Airlines’ official website, in order to offer modern and comfortable experiences to their customers, they have introduced several benefits with their Premium Economy Class seats, which include spacious seating and a range of additional services. By booking seats in this class, customers will enjoy special prices and even choose their preferred meals in advance through the “Book the Cook” service. They can also use free Wi-Fi for KrisFlyer members.

Singapore Airlines operates 44 flights per week from Phnom Penh and Siem Reap international airports to the US, landing in major cities like New York, San Francisco, Houston and Seattle, via Singapore. Premium Economy Class is only applicable on selected flights between Singapore and the US.

According to Singapore Airlines, tickets are on sale until March 16, with travel dates from now until April 30.

Chhay Sivlin, president of the Cambodia Association of Travel Agents, told The Post on February 19 that when a country has more international flights, and is safe and affordable, it will undoubtedly attract more travellers. Currently, both domestic and international travel is gradually recovering after the sharp decline over the past four years brought on by the Covid-19 crisis.

“When travel becomes easier and more affordable, the number of tourists will increase. Americans are desirable tourists for any country in the world,” she said.

To enhance its appeal and facilitate easier travel for both domestic and international visitors, Cambodia is making significant efforts to invest in all sectors, with the aviation sector also rapidly progressing.

Cambodia will officially inaugurate Phnom Penh’s new Techo International Airport in July. The new airport will be rated 4F, meaning it will be able to accommodate the world’s largest aircraft, such as the Boeing 747-800 and Airbus A380-800.

The construction of the airport is planned in three phases. Phase 1 involves the construction of a 4-kilometre runway for large 4F-type aircraft, with the capacity to service over 15 million passengers annually by 2030. Phase 2 will see a second runway added, allowing the airport to accommodate up to 30 million passengers annually by 2050. In Phase 3, from 2050 onwards, a third runway will be built to accommodate 45 million passengers annually.

According to the Ministry of Tourism, Cambodia saw 6.7 million foreign tourists in 2024, a 22.9% increase compared to 2023, which had 5.45 million. American tourists ranked fifth, with 214,529 visitors, marking a 16% increase from 2023.
