Strong growth in domestic production demand has prompted several factories in Cambodia to expand their operations. This expansion is expected to result in an increasing need for labour.
The growing demand for workers from factories and enterprises coincides with Cambodia welcoming home a large number of skilled labourers who recently returned from working in Thailand.
According to the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training, as of August 13, more than 900,000 Cambodian citizens had returned from Thailand. Both the private and public sectors are working closely together to provide job opportunities for these returnees so that they can earn income to support their livelihoods.
Keo Mom, founder and chairwoman of Ly Ly Food Industry Co., LTD, shared how her company is working closely with the government by offering job opportunities to Cambodian workers.
She added that even those without experience are still welcomed to work at Ly Ly, with most being assigned to the production and packaging departments. The company has a dedicated team that provides training to new workers.
With confidence in the government and increasing market support, Mom revealed that Ly Ly has decided to build another factory to meet growing market demand and create jobs for workers returning from Thailand. According to projections, the company’s demand for labour will increase once the new factory is completed and begins operations.
“Ly Ly is contributing to providing job opportunities to Cambodians returning from Thailand. We will work with the government to help reduce poverty among the people. Currently, we are also building a new factory building to add another production line. When it begins operations, we will need many more workers,” she said.
The labour ministry announced that ministry officials have conducted job market awareness campaigns and collected information from citizens in over 400 communes, as part of a plan to reach more than 1,000 communes. Their goal is to help coordinate between citizens and company representatives, through direct interviews.
Between August 2 and 10, the ministry organised 269 job forums, sharing information about a total of 112,267 job opportunities. These forums attracted 79,911 participants, with 15,332 people hired on the spot.
