Rising demand for rubber from domestic tyre manufacturing companies caused Cambodia’s rubber exports during the first eight months of 2025 to decline more than 10% compared to the same period last year, with just over 180,000 tonnes exported.
Thanks to high average prices for rubber on the international market, the revenue Cambodia earned from rubber exports in this period remained comparable to last year’s figure.
A report released this week by the General Directorate of Rubber under the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, stated that from January to August 2025, Cambodia exported 183,910 tonnes of rubber, a 12.3% decrease compared to the 209,733 tonnes exported in the same period in 2024. Revenue reached $328.37 million, almost the same as the $328.32 million earned during the same period last year.
The reason for the stable export revenue is a 14% average increase in price.
According to the report, the average price of rubber on the international market during the first eight months of 2025 was $1,786 per tonne, an increase of $220 over last year.
The report also noted that, aside from rubber latex exports, Cambodia also exported 12,712 cubic metres of rubberwood, generating approximately $2.93 million.
Khun Kakada, deputy director-general of the rubber directorate, noted that although rubber export volume fell slightly, total January to August domestic output reached 218,118 tonnes, an increase of 2.24% compared to the same period last year.
He explained that the drop in exports was due to a surge in domestic demand from local manufacturers. According to data, the volume of rubber used locally during the first eight months was 75,523 tonnes, an 89% increase over the same period last year.
“During the first eight months of 2025, the management, harvesting, processing, and business operations of rubber plantations and family-owned rubber farms have been running normally,” he said.
Currently, Cambodia has at least six tyre manufacturing factories in operation, all of which require locally sourced rubber.
According to the directorate, as of August 2025, Cambodia had a total rubber plantation area of 425,443 hectares, of which 330,259 hectares (78%) were tapped, while the remaining 95,184 hectares (22%) were under maintenance.
The report also noted that in 2024, total revenue from exporting rubber and rubberwood products reached $671.68 million, an increase of 36.48% compared to 2023.
