A joint force arrested 35 foreign and two local suspects in connection with technology-related fraud at the Marinan Casino, located in the Sanho complex in Poipet town, Banteay Meanchey Province.
The November 11 raid resulted in the arrest of 5 Chinese, 30 Indonesians and 2 Cambodians, each of them suspected of involvement in fraudulent online activities targeting citizens in other countries.
According to the Secretariat of the Commission for Combating Technology Crimes (CCTC), the suspects allegedly impersonated law enforcement officers, offered fraudulent online loans, posed as illegal money exchange businesses to other countries and engaged in digital currency exchange.
During the operation, authorities confiscated 65 computers, 63 telephones and 26 Thai national identification cards.
The operation was carried out by a joint force from the National Police, the Banteay Meanchey Provincial Joint Forces, and relevant provincial authorities with coordination from the CCTC and the Banteay Meanchey Provincial Prosecutor’s Office.
According to the CCTC, specialised authorities are collaborating with relevant parties to conduct further investigations to take legal action against the leaders of the group.
The suspects and evidence have been transferred to the Provincial Police Commission and relevant authorities for legal proceedings. The location has been temporarily shuttered.
