The 6th meeting of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) in Hungary urged all parties in conflicts to respect peace agreements, the UN Charter and international law, and to resolve disputes through diplomacy and dialogue, while avoiding the threat or use of force.
A press release from the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) explained that the meeting took place from November 27-29, in Budapest, Hungary. The participants unanimously adopted the Budapest Declaration, which emphasised that peace in Eurasia must be built not on fear or oppression, but on partnership, equality and collective security.
The statement called on governments, institutions and the international community to strengthen mechanisms for conflict resolution, mediation and reconciliation, asserting that peace cannot be separated from democratic governance, transparency or the rule of law.
“The meeting proposed promoting cross-border cooperation and accepting the differences between Asia and Europe, especially in civilisation, to build peace and mutual trust,” said the CPP release.
The forum was organized by Hungary’s Fidesz–Hungarian Civic Alliance under the theme “Peace and Democracy in Eurasia”, with the participation of representatives from 29 political parties and research institutions from 24 countries in Asia and Europe.
CPP senior member Suos Yara, vice-president of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP), was appointed by Hun Sen, CPP president, to attend the forum.
Yara highlighted the necessity of promoting inter-cultural and inter-civilisational connectivity between Asia and Europe, using shared identities and values as a core for inclusive dialogue and people-to-people exchanges.
He also encouraged the use of cultural diplomacy, bilateral and multilateral cooperation, respect for human values and peaceful coexistence for peace, democratic values and shared prosperity in connecting the inter-cultural and inter-civilisational aspects of both continents.
Hungarian state, parliamentary and Fidesz party leaders, including László Kövér, speaker of the Hungarian National Assembly, spoke about Hungary’s strategic position for the Eurasian region in the context of a new world order.
He stated that Hungary could play a central role as a bridge connecting political, economic, trade, digital technology, cultural relations and mutual respect between Asia and Europe, and East and West, according to the release.
Yara was also awarded the Grand Prize of Connectivity Award for his efforts in connectivity within the ICAPP framework.
