General Mao Sophan, commander of Brigade 70, said the unit was prepared to obey the orders of the head of the government, the Ministry of National Defence, the command of the army’s infantry, and was implanting plans to further train its officers and soldiers.

He made the remarks at the brigade headquarters, while celebrating the 28th anniversary of the unit on October 15.

Brigade 70 was established in 1994, and was originally called Battalion 71, he said.

“Next year, we plan to increase the tempo of our training to increase the capacity the officers, non-commissioned officers and troops of the unit,” he added.

He said that in the 28 years since the brigade was established, the unit has strived to develop and build accommodation buildings, hospitals, parking lots, canteens, gyms, health centres and roads, and had provided rescue to the victims of natural disasters.

He added that the unit was determined to defend the territorial integrity of the Kingdom, its Constitution and the legitimate government. It would firmly support the government’s position and resolutely opposed any colour revolution which attempted to topple the government.
