Deputy Siem Reap governor You Sophea, who also serves as head of the provincial counter-trafficking committee, has urged the authorities to work more closely together to reduce crime in the province, with a focus on human trafficking.
Sophea was addressing a monthly meeting at the provincial hall, which was attended by the heads of several relevant state institutions, along with representatives from town and district administrations and the judiciary, said the information department in an August 25 statement.
She advised the attendees to continue to improve their capacities, recommending that they apply themselves to educating school students about the law.
She told them that they need to provide young people with more information about fraud, harassment and abuse in all forms – both online and in-person – and train teachers and members of the Council for Children so they will be able to share what they have learned even further in their communities.
According to a report that was tabled at the meeting, in August, working groups from state institutions as well as domestic and international partner organisations carried out a public awareness campaign in Siem Reap which taught the public about laws on Suppression of Human Trafficking and Sexual Exploitation and related laws, as well as the “safe village-commune” policies.
They also held public forums and discussed laws related to the prevention of domestic violence and safe migration.
The report said the working groups distributed 2,306 leaflets on safe migration and the prevention of domestic violence and shared drug education and the prevention of domestic violence details.
