The General Commissariat of the National Police of Cambodia and the South Korean National Police Agency have agreed to create a Cambodia–Korea Joint Task Force for Korean Citizens. The new body will facilitate information exchange and mutual support in combating crimes, with a particular focus on preventing and suppressing cybercrimes.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the formation of the new task force was signed on Monday 10, at the headquarters of the Cambodian Ministry of Interior. The ceremony was witnessed by interior minister Sar Sokha and Korean Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Hyun. The MoU was signed by General Sar Thet, commissioner general of the Cambodian National Police, and Yoo Jae-seong, acting commissioner general of the Korean National Police Agency.

The interior ministry described the agreement as a “confident and pragmatic step forward in Cambodia–Korea cooperation in the field of security and law enforcement”.

Both Sokha and Cho praised the strong and growing ties between the two nations and their law enforcement agencies, especially the exchange of information and mutual assistance in combating crimes occurring in both countries and beyond, including cyber-related offenses.

Sokha expressed his gratitude to the South Korean government for its continued support and cooperation, which has contributed to enhancing public order and security in Cambodia over the years.

“The Korean foreign minister expressed confidence that relations between the two ministries will continue to develop, creating favourable conditions for the effective enforcement of the law and for the success of joint initiatives and cooperation plans — especially the establishment of the Cambodia–Korea Joint Task Force for Korean Citizens, which was approved at the leadership level of both countries,” noted a ministry statement.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen and expand cooperation, expressing strong optimism that bilateral relations will continue to grow steadily in the present and into the future.

As part of the MoU, the Cambodia–Korea Joint Force for Koreans Office was officially inaugurated within the Cambodian national police’s Central Department of Security, under the joint presidency of Sar Thet and Yoo Jae-seong.
