Senate president Hun Sen has advised Prime Minister Hun Manet to suspend all cross-border travel by Cambodian and Thai citizens and to protect Thai nationals from attacks by Thailand on its own people.

In a social media message shared a short time ago, Hun Sen, noted that in recent days, the Thai army has invaded Cambodia, attacking and killing Cambodian people indiscriminately.

They have used artillery and aircraft to destroy even bridges, roads, schools and pagodas.

“Toxic smoke and cluster bombs have been used in many locations, including areas where Thai citizens reside and work within Cambodian territory. Under these circumstances, as the president of the Senate, president of the Supreme Privy Council to the King and president of the ruling party, I advise the prime minister and the Royal Government to consider suspending all cross-border travel by Cambodian and Thai citizens,” he said.

“Cambodian citizens currently in Thailand should continue to live and work in Thailand and Thai citizens currently living and working in Cambodia must remain in Cambodia until a ceasefire is fully implemented. This measure is to ensure the safety of Cambodian and Thai people and prevent exposing them to danger during travel, especially when crossing the border,” he added.

“I ask Cambodian citizens living in Thailand and Thai citizens to please understand. I ask the Royal Government of Cambodia to help protect the safety of Thai citizens living in Cambodia so they do not suffer from Thai bullets, bombs or toxic smoke,” he continued.
