A three-day meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand Regional Border Committee (RBC) formally began on January 27 at the Poipet International Border Checkpoint, marking a renewed effort by both sides to strengthen coordination and maintain stability along the shared border.

According to Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defence, the opening session was convened by the RBC Secretariat between Cambodia’s 5th Military Region and Thailand’s 1st Army Area.

“The Cambodian delegation was led by Major General Sar Kimpak, chief of the RBC Secretariat for Cambodia, while the Thai side was headed by Major General Phittayakool Pothisuwan, chairman of the RBC Secretariat for Thailand,” said Socheata.

During the meeting, both delegations discussed key agenda items and exchanged relevant documents in preparation for the upcoming Special Meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand RBC, scheduled for January 29.

The discussions focused on technical and procedural matters aimed at ensuring smooth deliberations at the higher-level meeting.

The ministry said the session was conducted in line with the spirit of the Joint Statement adopted at the 3rd Special Meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) held on December 27, 2025.

The objective is to ensure the full and effective implementation of that joint statement, build mutual trust, and preserve peace and stability along the border, ultimately facilitating a return to normal conditions.

The RBC Secretariat meeting is scheduled to run from January 27 to 28 and is being held under the observership of the ASEAN Observer Teams (AOT) from both Cambodia and Thailand, reflecting a regional commitment to transparency and confidence-building measures.
