The attendees of today’s meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand Regional Border Committee (RBC) have once again failed to reach a consensus, with both sides withdrawing to their respective headquarters, according to the Ministry of National Defence.
Ministry spokesperson Maly Socheata stated that the RBC meeting was held on February 4 between Cambodia’s Military Region 3 and Thailand’s Chanthaburi-Trat Border Defense Command. The meeting took place at the Cham Yeam-Hat Lek International Point of Entry in Mondol Seima district, Koh Kong province.
The meeting was monitored by the ASEAN Observer Teams (AOT) of Cambodia and Thailand. The Cambodian secretariat team was led by Major General Mom Samedy, deputy commander of Military Region 3, while the Thai team was led by Captain Kittiphon Kunsiripanyo, chief of staff of the Chanthaburi-Trat Border Defense Command.
“As both parties have yet to reach common ground, both parties agreed to return to their respective headquarters to continue exchanging documents and negotiating until a consensus is reached. This will be followed by a formal signing ceremony and a meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand Regional Border Committee (RBC), between the two sides,” noted Socheata.
This special meeting of the RBC was held according to the spirit of the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special Meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC), held on December 27, 2025.
The meeting was staged to reaffirm both sides’ commitment to implement the substance of the GBC meeting, in order to achieve a swift return to normalcy.
Two such meetings have already been organised — between Cambodia’s Military Region 5 and Thailand’s Region 1, and between Cambodia’s Military Region 4 and Thailand’s Region 2 — with no consensus reached at any of the meetings.
