Authorities raided the Xinli Casino in Preah Sihanoukville province yesterday, detaining more than 800 suspected scammers.
The provincial police commissariat explained that the building, in Village 4, Sangkat 4, Sihanoukville town, was part of the Kingdom’s on-going efforts to eliminate online crime operations in the Kingdom.
A statement from the Preah Sihanouk provincial police reported that when a combined task force inspected the 18th and 19th floors of the casino building, they identified it as the site of online fraud activities.
Authorities confiscated approximately 650 computers and about 1,000 mobile phones. They also detained 805 people, including Chinese, Korean, Japanese, American, Filipino, Pakistani and Indian, as well as Khmer nationals.
They are currently proceeding with legal procedures.
On February 9, the General Department of Immigration (GDI) deported 485 foreigners of 5 nationalities — Chinese, Bangladeshi, Pakistani, Indian and Russian — in connection with online fraud. Among them were 477 Chinese nationals, who were deported via the Techo International Airport Police Post. An additional 319 Chinese were deported overnight, according to the GDI.
