The Cambodian Ministry of National Defence has rejected reports published by Thai military social media accounts and several Thai media outlets claiming that Cambodian troops fired a single 40mm grenade near a Thai patrol.
The Thai media published reports today alleging that on the morning of February 24, the firing occurred opposite the geographic area of Kaol Prambei (Pillar 8), Chak Chreng, in Preah Vihear province.
Ministry spokesperson Maly Socheata categorically denied the accusation and called on Thai figures to stop publishing false information that could cause misunderstandings and escalate tensions.
“According to information received from Military Region 4 of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, it was confirmed that after hearing an explosion and the sound of gunfire on the Thai side, the liaison team of Cambodia’s Military Region 4 and Thailand’s 2nd Army Region contacted each other to inquire and exchange information regarding this case.
“It was clearly confirmed to the Thai 2nd Army Region that Cambodian forces did not fire as accused,” she said.
She noted that the defence ministry remains committed to respecting and implementing — fully, strictly and with the highest responsibility — the Joint Declaration of the 3rd Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) dated December 27, 2025, and the Joint Statement on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand dated October 26, 2025.
